Of the over 900,000 registered with the exchange for government jobs in 2008, only 26,752 got placed. The previous AIADMK government had put on hold new recruitments, except in departments like police, teachers and medicines. According to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the revival in the agriculture sector has been due to the record production of 216 million tonnes of foodgrains, 22.7 million bales of cotton and 345 million tonnes of sugarcane in 2006-07. Property investments by Indian buyers in the UK could touch 10-15 billion (Rs 81,829-1,227,44 crore) in the next 10 years, according to a report by property consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle. Though the consultancy did not provide the current numbers, it expects the value of investments to grow 10 per cent every year.
